Al Mutahida - National Day Initiative

Mutahida is a national day intitative by watani, tashkeel gallery and emirates fine arts society.

it is a student competition and an art exhibition to showcase what mutahida (unity) means to all of us. the unity of the 7 emirates to finally represent the united arab emirates.

i was part of it as a judge and as an exhibitor. the final day is on the 5th of december in dubai mall, so do your best to be there as watani will be announcing the 3 student winners.

ImagineFx 50th Issue

i submitted my painting Farewell My Love for ImagineFx's 50th Anniversary magazine cover competition.
I know there are alot of digital artists world wide, but i said to myself "be positive" and i am glad that i was.
Although i didn't win but at least i made it as one of the published entries, so thank you imaginefx for such an honor :)

i found a really nice article in www.thenational.ae it was talking about the Emirati Artists and their needs. i loved the article and i thought i should share it with everyone :)

here is my best part of it all!
“There is help from the Government but it is very recent and it is almost solely financial,” said Jalal Luqman, part-owner of the Ghaf Gallery in Abu Dhabi and a participant in Talking Art lecture series. “Proper support from the Government would mean Emirati art hanging in the lobbies of hotels, Emirati sculptures decorating the Corniche and Emirati architectural designs being used for construction projects.”
Mr Luqman, whose works breach taboos by showing violence and nudity, urged more recognition for Emirati artists. “I would also like to see someone recognising our needs as artists and subsequently provide studio space or sponsoring trips abroad to widen our horizons,” he said. “I have been through hard times of selling my possessions to pay for exhibitions; now I need that money to be spent in a more productive way.”

53rd Venice Biennale

thanks to ADACH whom without we the Emirati artists wouldn't have been at the Venice Biennale for the UAE & ADACH pavilion. it was simply an amazing experience! i learnt so much and all i wanted to do is to work on my paintings while i was there! but unfortunately i didn't have my laptop and tablet with me :(

the Egyptian pavilion was my favorite, when i entered and saw these huge men sculptures bending down to greet me, i was stunned!!! i just fell in love immediately :)

Venice tour

(ADACH) organized a Venice tour for us the emirati artists, Sumayyah Al Suwaidi, Noor Al Suwaidi, Mattar Bin Lahej, Jalal Luqman & Ali Al Abdan.

this is the coffee shop in the lobby of the hotel, i just loved their cafe latte! ummmh! :) in this picture we girls were discussing the idea of going shopping because i was missing shoes to wear for the uae pavilion opening reception and alia al shamsi needed batteries for her camera! finally the rest of the girls went to the Biennale and alia and i went shopping :)

here, Emirati artist Ali Al Abdan was listening to our tour guide, who was talking to us about the history of Venice :)


Emirati artist Dr. Najat Makki is such a wonderful human being! she is one of the masters of art in the UAE, so it was an hour sitting next to her at the breakfast table :)

i was lucky enough to be walking through the hotel corridor to see our group sitting in the lobby, so i took the opportunity to take this photo, i really like it :)

emirate expressions finale

hey all!!!!!!!!! :)

yesterday was the finale of emirati expressions, it was simply amazing!

we had live performances by faiza mubarak and dr. najat makki as workshops with kids and adults and wasel safwan was on his feet from 5 pm till 10 pm painting live infornt of a huge audience :)

i personally got to meet so many art lovers and had the chance to spend few minutes with most of them but the best part of the finale is when the emirati hip hop group desert heat started singing the crowd went crazy!!!! i went crazy!!! clapping, singing and nodding! LOL!! :) by the way i also got the chance to take a picture with them :) check out their website http://desertheatarabia.com/site

anyway, i am sad that the exhibition had to end coz it was like my second home, i really hope i get to participate next year.
